Floodlight (Andre Fabre/Vincent Cheminaud) ran well to finish second on his Pattern debut in the G3 Prix de Guiche at Chantilly, France, on Tuesday, May 10.
The three-year-old colt tracked Almanzor in a clear second for the majority of the nine-furlong contest but could not challenge the leader in the home straight and was passed by Gardol City entering the final furlong.
Floodlight battled back to regain the runner-up spot near the line and go down by two lengths to Almanzor, who made all of the running to score in 1m 53.98s on good to soft ground.
Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: "The race was slightly tactical, which didn't suit Floodlight, but he stayed on nicely and it was an encouraging performance.
"He really found his stride in the closing stages and this has opened up a few options for him over 10 furlongs and further."
