Marquisat filled the runner-up spot behind a multiple G1 winner for a second time as he went down by a nose to Junko in the G2 Grand Prix de Chantilly on Sunday, 2 June.

The Andre Fabre-trained four-year-old, who had found Iresine a length too strong in October’s G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris, settled in fourth on the outside of Galashiels as Al Qareem and Junko led the seven runners.

Marquisat swapped places with Galashiels approaching the final half-mile and moved up to press for the lead with Junko when Al Qareem started to fade a furlong and a half out.

Junko opened up a narrow advantage passing the furlong pole but could not shake off a rallying Marquisat, with the line coming just in time for the Preis von Bayern and Hong Kong Vase victor.
