G3 second for Cantilena at Dusseldorf

Cantilena gained some valuable G3 Black Type with a closing second in the Grosser Preis der Landeshauptstadt Dusseldorf in Germany on Sunday, 2 October.

Third in the Listed Prix Occitanie on her previous start, the Dubawi homebred soon settled in fifth as last season’s German 1,000 Guineas scorer Novemba led the nine-strong field.

Cantilena moved up to fourth at the top of the straight and stayed on under Alexandre Roussel, passing the fading Novemba and Dapango inside the final furlong.

The Henri-Alex Pantall-trained filly saw out the extended mile well, with Aemilianus holding on by a diminishing neck margin.
