Grecian Light goes for May Hill Stakes

Two-year-old filly Grecian Light steps up to G2 level for the mile Clugston Contruction May Hill Stakes (14.30hrs local time) at Doncaster, UK, on Thursday, September 8.

Trained by Charlie Appleby, the daughter of Shamardal disappointed when last of seven in the G3 Prestige Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood on August 27.

She stayed on when the length and a half runner-up to Nations Alexander in the seven-furlong G3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket on August 6 and made a winning start to her career over the same course and distance on July 15.

Charlie Appleby explained: “Grecian Light wasn’t suited to the track at Goodwood.

“Stepping up in trip to one mile on a more conventional track will be in her favour and, if she can reproduce her run in the Sweet Solera Stakes, then she should be competitive.”

William Buick takes the ride on Grecian Light (drawn four) at Doncaster, where her eights rivals include the Prestige Stakes winner Kilmah, plus impressive maiden scorers Blending and Hidden Steps.
