Height Of Fashion Success For Skiffle

Skiffle (Charlie Appleby/William Buick) stayed on strongly for a length victory in the 10-furlong Listed Veolia Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood, UK on Thursday, May 19.

Skiffle (Charlie Appleby/William Buick) stayed on strongly for a length victory in the 10-furlong Listed Veolia Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood, UK on Thursday, May 19.

Charlie Appleby said: "Skiffle was very slowly away on her debut at Ascot but, in hindsight, it wasn't a bad thing for her because she did it all the right way round - she was finishing her race off.

"It was a different filly that turned up today. She was a bit more on her toes, jumped alertly and took a bit of a keen hold for the first couple of furlongs before William got her settled into a nice rhythm.

"She has learned a lot today and is only going to improve with the step up to a mile and a half. She is a filly that we hope has a nice future.

"We felt that this race suited us with its timing. We had thought about the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot (G2, 1m 4f, June 16) and that we could test the water today, so she has justified that entry now.

"All options are open and we will get her back home and discuss things with H H Sheikh Mohammed and John Ferguson but the plan was always to hopefully come here and go on to the Ribblesdale Stakes.

"She only ran in a maiden two weeks ago and I feel that the Investec Oaks (G1, 1m 4f, June 3) may potentially come too soon. I feel that we are better off giving the filly a little more time and hopefully she can repay us."
