Frosted finished a close second in the US$600,000 Grade Two Jim Dandy Stakes over nine furlongs on dirt at Saratoga, USA, on Saturday, August 1.

The grey three-year-old, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and partnered by Joel Rosario, was part of a four-runner field after three contenders raced elsewhere.

Drawn on the outside, Frosted raced in third three wide initially as Japan took them along, with main rival Texas Red, a Breeders' Cup winner, in second.

The son of Tapit edged closer to the front two at the end of the backstretch but still had some ground to make up as Texas Red challenged the leader turning in.

Switched out soon after entering the straight, Frosted made relentless progress but could not quite overcome Texas Red who won officially by half a length in 1m 48.77s.

Kiaran McLaughlin commented: "Tapit has run very well. The field was scratched down to four runners so it turned into a funny race.

"There wasn't the pace and the winner is a very nice horse who has beaten Frosted narrowly.

"We gave the winner 4lb and when we run back in four weeks time (Grade One Travers Stakes, 10f dirt, Saratoga, August 29) it will be off level weights in a bigger field with a better pace.

"I like our chances then and think we can turn the tables on Texas Red but I don't know about American Pharoah."

Joel Rosario added: "I had a good trip. Frosted ran and responded to everything I asked him to do. The other horse was just a little bit better."
