Legend Of Time was caught in the final strides by Carson’s Run in a gripping finish to the G1 Saratoga Derby on Sunday, 11 August.
Lining up on the back of an unlucky third in the G1 Belmont Derby, Legend Of Time disputed fourth on the inside of Deterministic before taking slightly closer order when Izzy d’Oro stretched the field down the back.
All six runners bunched half a mile from home, with Flavien Prat pitching Legend Of Time wide to deliver his challenge at the top of the straight.
Royal Majesty and Legend Of Time pressed Izzy d’Oro on both sides a furlong and a half out and the duo soon went on, with the Godolphin three-year-old bravely opening up a narrow advantage.
Carson’s Run unleashed a storming late charge, heading Legend Of Time in the final strides to score by three-quarters of a length.
Charlie Appleby said: “It was another creditable run from Legend Of Time. He will stay out in America and look at the Jockey Club Derby – it looks like the step up to a mile and three furlongs will suit him.”
