Legend Of Time finished behind Trikari for a second time this season when coming home third in the G1 Belmont Derby at Aqueduct, USA, on Saturday, 6 July.

The Charlie Appleby-trained colt was fifth when Trikari won the G2 American Turf Stakes on the Kentucky Derby undercard but had since graduated to G2 honours of his own when edging out White Palomino in Aqueduct’s Pennine Ridge Stakes.

Having broken on terms in the five-runner contest, Legend Of Time raced in third down the inside rail behind White Palomino and Trikari. The leading duo looked to stretch the field turning in, with Royal Majesty moving up on the outside of Legend Of Time at the top of the straight.

Royal Majesty continued to stand his ground on the outside of Legend Of Time until William Buick found space approaching the final half-furlong. Legend Of Time kept on in the final strides without challenging Trikari and White Palomino, going down by just over a length and a quarter in total.

William Buick said: “Legend Of Time had a good trip, it just never opened up for him. He still finished up full of horse, which was unfortunate. He ran really well and, if he had gotten out sooner, it might have been a bit different. I was where I was, and that was it.”
