Man Of Promise doubles up in Listed Dubai Sprint

Man Of Promise comfortably beat Lazuli to capture the Listed Dubai Sprint for a second successive year at Meydan, UAE, on Friday, 28 January.
The five-year-old had shown good early speed in the six-furlong contest 12 months ago and once again was smartly into his stride, disputing the early lead in a group of eight that came up the stands’ rail.
Man Of Promise moved up to dictate on his side at the halfway stage, with Lazuli hitting the front on the far group of six approaching the final furlong.
Both Charlie Appleby-trained sprinters galloped out well, with Man of Promise asserting under William Buick in the closing stages for a two and a half-length success.
William Buick said: “It was very similar to Man Of Promise’s win last year. He is a lovely, honest horse who is all speed. You let him do whatever he wants and it was a very easy ride for me. I am sure that he has better races in him and both he and Lazuli are very useful sprinters.
“Man Of Promise is certainly at least as good as he was last year and I feel that he is horse that we haven’t quite seen the best of yet. This track and trip are tailor-made for him.”
