Morlock in Somerville Stakes bid

Debut winner Morlock steps up to G3 level for the seven-furlong Somerville Stakes on the first day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting on Thursday, September 28.
The two-year-old Epaulette colt, trained by Charlie Appleby, switches to turf after staying on well to score by half a length in a Polytrack novice race over the same distance at Kempton Park on September 8.
James Doyle takes the ride again on Morlock, who faces eight other juveniles headed by Doncaster Listed winner Tip Two Win and recent York victor Elarqam.
Charlie Appleby said: “I was pleased with Morlock on his debut, when he did everything very professionally, and the form of that race looks to have worked out quite well so far.
“This is his next step, but he looks to have come forward for his first run and hopefully he will be competitive.”
Elsewhere on day one of the Cambridgeshire meeting, All-Weather Marathon champion Winning Story (Saeed bin Suroor/Pat Cosgrave), who was seventh in the 14-furlong Ebor Heritage Handicap at York on August 26, returns to two miles for the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes.
