Moulton Paddocks team warm up for Australia

Qewy, Francis Of Assisi, Folkswood and Kidmenever underwent their final pieces of work on Wednesday, September 27, ahead of travelling out to Australia for Melbourne’s Spring Carnival.
All four Charlie Appleby-trained horses, who have been in pre-export quarantine in Newmarket, worked over six furlongs prior to setting off on their journey on Thursday, September 28.
Charlie Appleby reported: “Qewy, Francis Of Assisi, Folkswood and Kidmenever worked well on grass and I was very pleased with them all.
“They look fit, well and ready to jump on the plane on Thursday afternoon. The biggest challenge now is how they take the journey but they are leaving here in good order."
Seven-year-olds Qewy and Francis Of Assisi will be making a second visit to Australia, having been part of a hugely successful group of horses that undertook the trip from Moulton Paddocks last season.
Qewy captured the G3 Geelong Cup and the Listed Sandown Cup, as well as coming home a fast-finishing fourth in the G1 Emirates Melbourne Cup, while Francis Of Assisi won at G3 level on both of his Australian appearances, in the Bendigo Cup and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Qewy and Francis Of Assisi are joined by Folkswood, who was beaten a neck in the G1 Jebel Hatta Sponsored by Emirates Airline at Meydan, UAE, in March, and Kidmenever, a Listed runner-up at Sandown Park in July.
The trainer added: “We will probably look at having another crack at the Geelong Cup (12f, Geelong, October 25) with Qewy before going for the Emirates Melbourne Cup (2m, Flemington, November 7) again.
“Francis Of Assisi holds an entry in the G1 Caulfield Cup (12f, Caulfield, October 21) and he will also be entered in the G2 Herbert Power Stakes (12f, Caulfield, October 14) along with Kidmenever.
“We will look at the G1 Caulfield Stakes (10f, Caulfield, October 14) for Folkswood, although he could go for the Listed Cranbourne Cup (10.5f, Cranbourne, October 15) instead.
“Qewy and Francis Of Assisi are the two contenders for the Emirates Melbourne Cup as things stand. Kidmenever has to go and win beforehand if he is to get a racing weight for the big race.”
