Promising Run strikes in G2 Al Rashidiya

Promising Run gained the second G2 success of her career as she bravely edged out Light The Lights in the nine-furlong Al Rashidiya Stakes on week four of Dubai World Cup Carnival at Meydan, UAE, on Thursday, January 26.
The Saeed bin Suroor-trained four-year-old filly, who captured Newmarket’s G2 Rockfel Stakes as a juvenile in 2015, raced a bit keenly initially when fifth of the seven runners towards the outside.
She moved up to fourth turning in and came with a strong challenge under Jim Crowley in the straight, going third at the distance and running on gamely to pass Light The Lights 50 yards from the line.
Promising Run prevailed by half a length in 1m 49.43s on good turf, with a neck back to Earnshaw in third.
Saeed bin Suroor declared: “It was an excellent performance by Promising Run.
“There is no plan for her at the moment but we will look to the future and not rush her.”
Jim Crowley added: “The ground was on the slow side for Promising Run on her previous start at Ascot (in the G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes in October) and the 12-furlong trip then stretched her, but she still ran with credit.
“She was dropping back in distance tonight, racing on faster ground and Saeed’s horses are in great form so it all worked nicely tonight.
“She was a little bit slowly away and there wasn’t much pace on but I kicked turning in and she wore the runner-up down nicely.
“I thought that I was going to win turning in. She may have pulled up a fraction when she got to the front, but at least there was a little left in the tank.
“She galloped out past the line very well, so I don’t think that another furlong would be a problem.”
