Godolphin established a record that is likely to stand for some time when winning a total of 31 of the 62 thoroughbred races at the Dubai World Cup Carnival.

With a treble on Super Saturday earlier this month, Charlie Appleby surged to a clear lead in the trainers title, on 17 winners, three ahead of his Godolphin colleague Saeed bin Suroor, who has sent out 14 winners.

For one ownership to be responsible for 50% of winners is remarkable, and an indication of the impressive depth and quality in both yards that form a major part of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin operation.

Godolphin’s William Buick is top of the jockeys’ standings, with 13 winners, comfortably clear of regular rival Christophe Soumillon, on seven.

They were followed by three riders on six wins — Mickael Barzalona of Godolphin, Pat Dobbs and Pat Cosgrave.
