Romantic Style found a slow early gallop against her as she finished second behind all-the-way winner Choisya in the G2 Cape Verdi at Meydan, UAE, on Friday, 17 January.

Making her first start since July, Romantic Style refused to settle in fourth as Choisya set sedate early fractions for the five runners.

Romantic Style continued to race keenly under William Buick, who produced last season’s G3 Prix Imprudence winner four wide at the top of the straight.

The Charlie Appleby-trained filly stayed on to take second a furlong and a half out but could not make inroads on Choisya, who found plenty in front to score by five lengths.

Charlie Appleby said: “It was a slight non-event from our perspective but fair play to the winner, who has been given a good ride and got the job done. We will bring Romantic Style back to the UK and regroup.”
