Romantic Style opened up some exciting new sprinting opportunities as she posted a decisive win in the Listed Dubai Sprint at Meydan, UAE, on Friday, 31 January.

Dropping down to six furlongs after finishing second in the G2 Cape Verdi, the Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old was steadied towards the rear of the field as Rasas led the main group of runners up the centre of the course.

Romantic Style made smooth headway on the bridle entering the final quarter-mile and quickened smartly for William Buick to collar Rasas over a furlong and a half out.

Having established a clear advantage a furlong from home, the Night Of Thunder filly never looked in any danger, crossing the line two and a half lengths clear of Haasim.

William Buick said: “The Cape Verdi was a disaster, so Romantic Style dropped back in trip today. Charlie and the team were confident that was the right thing to do. She has always shown plenty of speed and has won over six furlongs a couple of times.

“Sometimes when they drop back in trip against seasoned sprinters, they can find it tough, but she proved that she was a level above. She was very comfortable coming back sprinting and let’s hope that is where her future lies.”
