Star Of Mystery secured G2 Black Type as she filled the runner-up spot behind Persian Dreamer in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Friday, 14 July.

The half-sister to Althiqa and Mysterious Night, an impressive Listed winner over the course and distance on her previous start, made the initial running before racing freely in a close second as Thanksbutnothanks led the four runners.

Star Of Mystery regained the advantage with just under a quarter of a mile to race and was joined by Persian Dreamer entering the final furlong. Persian Dreamer went on in the closing stages, with Star Of Mystery sticking to her task for William Buick to go down by a length and three-quarters.

Trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Star Of Mystery didn’t lose too much in defeat and I think she will be better when she can get a bit of cover. We were taken on for the early lead, which just lit her up for a couple of furlongs. Small fields can become messy, but full credit to the winner.”
