Star Of Mystery capitalised on a drop in class with a dominant victory in the G3 Quick Call Stakes at Saratoga, USA, on Sunday, 14 July.
Winner of the G2 Blue Point Sprint at Meydan in January, the Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old had posted strong efforts in G1 company on her two previous outings, taking second in the Al Quoz Sprint and third in the Jaipur Stakes.
After showing good speed from the gates, Flavien Prat took Star Of Mystery back to settle in fifth on the outside of Smokey Smokey as No Nay Mets opened up a clear lead.
Star Of Mystery made good headway around the field turning in before powering into the lead in a matter of strides entering the final furlong. The half-sister to the 2017 G1 Diana Stakes winner Althiqa coasted home to beat Mansa Musa by an easy length and a half.
Flavien Prat said: “Star Of Mystery is obviously very talented. I thought her last race against older horses in the Jaipur was a great performance. She was a bit of a handful before the race that day but was great today and I was worried that I might have put her to sleep.
“She jumped well and was travelling well the whole way round. When I tipped her out, she did the rest. Apparently, she had a tendency of breaking a tad slow in Europe, but she has broken well on her last two starts. I was very grateful that she jumped forwardly and did the rest.
“A lot can happen in turf sprints, and you need everything to go your way, but Star Of Mystery is a very professional filly who is easy to handle.”
