Two-year-old colts Steady Pace and Rouleau step up to seven furlongs for the Group Three Somerville Tattersall Stakes at Newmarket, UK on Thursday, September 24.
Steady Pace (Saeed bin Suroor/James Doyle), successful over five furlongs on his debut at Ascot in May, faded to fifth on his latest start in the six-furlong Group Two Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes at York on August 22.
The Dark Angel colt ran two excellent races at Group Two level over the same trip in July, taking third in the Qatar Richmond Stakes at Goodwood and going down by a length to subsequent Group One winner Shalaa when second in the Arqana July Stakes at Newmarket.
Rouleau (Charlie Appleby/William Buick) is a three-time winner over six furlongs, most recently when gaining a gutsy half-length success on Polytrack in the Group Three Toteexacta Sirenia Stakes over six furlongs at Kempton Park on September 5.
The son of Exceed And Excel also ran well in two five-furlong races, including when a good third in the Group Three Fairmont Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood on July 29.
Saeed bin Suroor said: "Steady Pace is doing really well at the moment.
"He was slightly disappointing at York but has run some good races this season and I am hoping for a better performance this time."
Charlie Appleby commented: "Rouleau has come out of his win in the Sirenia Stakes very well and we decided to give him a chance over seven furlongs.
"He has been a great servant this year and is a very easy horse, so we will be riding him to get the trip.
"We feel that he has got a chance of staying seven furlongs and, if he does, then I think he will be there as a player."
Rouleau, drawn in stall six, and Steady Pace, drawn seven, take on seven other juveniles including Qatar Richmond Stakes runner-up Tasleet, Irish Group Three second Sanus Per Aquam and French challenger Lawmaking.
Maftool won the Somerville Tattersall Stakes for Godolphin in 2014.
