Boynton Comes Out Best In Superlative Stakes

Hugely promising juvenile Boynton continued an impressive start to his career with a brave victory in the G2 Bet365 Superlative Stakes on the final day of Newmarket's July Festival, Saturday, July 9.

Hugely promising juvenile Boynton continued an impressive start to his career with a brave victory in the seven-furlong G2 Bet365 Superlative Stakes on the third and final day of Newmarket's July Festival, Saturday, July 9.

The Charlie Appleby-trained son of More Than Ready, a debut winner over a furlong shorter at Goodwood on June 3, was held up towards the rear of the nine-strong field.

Boynton started to make headway at the halfway stage and ran on powerfully to take the lead under Adam Kirby with just over quarter of a mile to race.

War Decree emerged from the pack to lay down a strong challenge and headed Boynton for a couple of strides inside the final furlong but the Godolphin colt found more to assert near the line and prevail by three-quarters of a length.

His winning time was 1m 24.86s on good to firm ground, with the front two pulling five lengths clear of Mr Scaramanga in third.

Charlie Appleby said: "Boynton put in a piece of work last Saturday on the Limekilns gallop and we were very happy with what we saw. William Buick gave him a lovely ride at Goodwood and said that he thought this horse was a cut above average.

"He has mentally come on so much for that run and Adam let him come into today's race in his own time. Adam has given Boynton a great ride - he has let the horse find his feet and he has galloped out strongly.

"We might have a look at the G1 National Stakes (the Curragh, September 11) in Ireland for him. We will see how he comes out of this first and regroup."

Adam Kirby added: "Boynton is a galloper - he really sticks his head out and tries - and I think his future is quite bright. He is a lovely horse to sit on, a great mover with a lovely action.

"I managed to get into a lovely rhythm in behind and was able to wind him up at a nice time. The runner-up coming to us helped us because it made Boynton get his head down and concentrate again. He pulled away and was strong in the end."
