'Dutch' draw not an issue in Mile

This year's G1 Breeders' Cup Mile is widely regarded as one of the toughest races over the two days at Santa Anita, yet trainer Charlie Hills sees that as a positive for his Godolphin runner Dutch Connection -- it will ensure plenty of pace.

The charge to the first bend in the Mile is notorious for interference, and the draw is usually a key factor in deciding the outcome of the race.
Dutch Connection, drawn 7 of 14, is right in the middle, which, in some circumstances, would make it the 'squeeze' gate, with horses from the outside coming over, creating traffic problems.

But Hills is not unduly concerned: "I think 7 is pretty good. There is pace in 6, which will help. We just need a few things to go our way."
The trainer added that Dutch Connection had settled in quickly at his barn at Santa Anita. "He travelled really well. And I'm more than happy with him. Today (Thursday), he went half a mile on the Turf, quickening up around the turn," he reported.

This is Hills's fourth runner at the Breeders' Cup. He sent out Chriselliam to win the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, also at Santa Anita.
