Godolphin trainer Andre Fabre is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his first winner of the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe this Sunday.

Fabre, 71, has trained a record seven winners of Europe's most prestigious all-aged contest, stretching from that initial success with Trempolino (1987), and followed by Subotica (1992), Carnegie (1994), Peintre Celebre (1997), Sagamix (1998), Hurricane Run (2005) and Rail Link (2006).

His nearest rival on the all-time list trained four winners of the Arc, which was first run in 1920.

Reaching this significant anniversary in the history of the Arc, Andre Fabre agreed to answer seven questions concerning the race, its winners and others associated with them.

In a Q & A exclusive to the Godolphin website, the trainer reveals the Arc jockey he most admires for his perfect ride in the race, the horse he knew would win an Arc from the time he first ran in public, and his views on the race's return to Longchamp next year.

Read on for a fascinating insight into the opinions and observations of France's 27-times champion trainer and the most successful in the history of the Arc.

Q. Have each of your seven Arc winners had a common attribute/quality, or have they been completely different types?

A. No two horses are the same. To me, they have all been completely different types.

Q. How early in a horse's career can you detect a typical Arc contender?  Your best example.

A. The best example is Sagamix. I knew when he won his maiden at the start of the year, first time out, that he was an Arc horse, so his whole preparation was geared towards that race.

Q. How different is it for the horses to be running the Arc at Chantilly rather than Longchamp?

A. For the Arc trip (2,400m), Longchamp is a fairer course than Chantilly.

Q. Which of your seven Arc winners gave you the biggest surprise on the big day?

A. None of them surprised me in winning the Arc. I believed in all of them.

Q. You have enjoyed a great rapport with your Arc-winning jockeys. Which of them do you admire most for his riding skills and what he did on the big day?

A. Pat Eddery won the race for me on Trempolino in 1987. I thought his judgement was excellent.

Q. What advice would you give to any jockey riding in the Arc for the first time?

A. None! Any jockey who rides in the Arc should be capable of exercising his own skill and judgement in the race.

 Q. How are you looking forward to the Arc returning to Longchamp in 2018?

 A. With a certain amount of impatience! I visited the site recently and this has only served to sharpen my anticipation of returning to this majestic racecourse.
