G3 La Coupe places for Soleil Marin & Spotify

Soleil Marin was collared close home when finishing second in the G3 La Coupe Stakes, with Spotify staying on well to take third in the 10-furlong contest at Longchamp, France, on Monday, 10 June.
Both five-year-olds were held up, with Soleil Marin (Andre Fabre/Mickael Barzalona) settled in fourth on the inside rail, one place ahead of Spotify (Charlie Appleby/James Doyle), as Success Days took the seven-strong field along.
Soleil Marin moved up to go third with half a mile to race and was angled out to challenge after progressing to second a furlong and a half out. He quickened and briefly took up the running from Success Days inside the final half-furlong but was soon headed by Danceteria, who flew home towards the centre of the course to score by a length in 2m 9.63s on good ground.
Spotify, after being switched out at the top of the straight, stayed on to take third near the line, a further three-quarters of a length behind Soleil Marin.
Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Soleil Marin produced another good performance.
“I don’t think there are any excuses for him and he was just beaten by a better horse on the day.”
