Glorious Journey makes all in G3 Prix Daphnis

Glorious Journey, trained by Charlie Appleby, was the impressive winner of the G3 Prix Daphnis over a mile at Deauville, France, on Tuesday, 21 August.
Racing in the colours of HH Sheikha Al Jalila Racing, the three-year-old Dubawi colt was sent straight into the lead by William Buick, with his stablemate First Contact (Charlie Appleby/James Doyle) racing in second.
As the field entered the straight, Glorious Journey still held a clear advantage and lengthened well entering the final furlong. He ran on strongly to score by two lengths from Sacred Life, who stayed on to take second. First Contact was another four lengths away in third.
The winning time was 1.44.11s on good to soft ground.
Charlie Appleby said: “It was pleasing to see Glorious Journey back on track today. He was a G3 winner as a two-year-old and is now a G3 winner as a three-year-old.
“Today’s win will hopefully have given his confidence a boost.
“Going forward, we don’t have any set plans. We have been taking things race by race with him and we will just see how he comes out of today. Mentally, he is going the right way and on the back of today’s win we would have to look at stepping him up in class.
“James (Doyle) said First Contact just ran a little bit free early on. Ideally, he needs a bit more cover in his races or as a second option we could look at dropping him back in trip. He is probably more suited to a race with a bigger field.”
