Jumeirah 1,000 Guineas proves a doddle for Mountain Breeze

Mountain Breeze maintained her perfect start to 2025 with another dominant Meydan success in the Listed Jumeirah 1,000 Guineas Sponsored By Emirates Skywards on Emirates Super Saturday, 1 March.
Stepping back up to a mile following an easy win in the Mawj Stakes, the Charlie Appleby-trained filly broke smartly and soon tracked Octans and La Senora in third of the six runners.
Mountain Breeze went second as La Senora started to labour approaching the final quarter-mile and cruised up to take the lead from Octans entering the final furlong.
The three-parts sister to Pinatubo powered clear under a hands-and-heels ride from William Buick, who eased the Lope de Vega homebred close home to score by nearly four lengths.
Charlie Appleby said: “I think we will look towards the French 1,000 Guineas for Mountain Breeze. She won her first two starts on the Rowley Mile, but hated the dip on both occasions, and I don’t see her running in the Guineas there.”
William Buick said: “Mountain Breeze has only run over a mile once before [in the G1 Natalma Stakes] and it didn’t really happen for her that day. That was the only question mark, but we thought she would stay. As important as anything else, we wanted her to do it nice and smoothly. Hopefully, this will set her up for a nice campaign back home.
“She has already proven herself at Stakes level and looks to me as if she has improved a little bit physically through the winter. If she keeps going the right way, I am sure she can figure in some nice races.”
