Silver Knott takes supporting role in G1 Hollywood Derby

Silver Knott rounded off a productive US campaign with another Graded placing as he finished third in the G1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar on Saturday, 2 December.

Last season’s G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up, who had also finished second in Santa Anita’s G2 Twilight Derby on his previous start, broke smartly and was sent on into a length lead by Jamie Spencer.

Santorini halved Silver Knott’s advantage down the back, although the Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old continued to travel kindly in front before kicking for home at the top of the lane.

Silver Knott rallied when pressed by Program Trading entering the final furlong but was soon headed by the Saratoga Derby winner, with Webslinger passing the Godolphin runner for second in the closing strides.
