Sound And Silence just pipped

Godolphin’s first runner on Breeders’ Cup Day, two-year-old Sound And Silence, was beaten in the final strides of the five-furlong Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes at Del Mar, USA, on Saturday, 4 November.
The Exceed And Excel colt, trained by Charlie Appleby and partnered by William Buick, broke well in the 12-strong field and raced in mid-division before being switched towards the inner.
He moved up to fourth turning in and was switched out to challenge, coming with a strong run to lead with a furlong remaining and looked all over the winner before being caught by Decarationofpeace who triumphed by a head.
The winning time on firm ground was 57.23s.
Charlie Appleby commented, “Sound And Silence has run very well – my horses are in good order – and it was another solid performance.
“He has not lost anything in defeat and loves this quick ground.
“Sound And Silence was my first two-year-old runner of the year and has now done enough for the year.
“He will be a fun horse for 2018 and remain sprinting.”
