Dual Listed winner Sound And Silence steps back up to six furlongs for the G3 Prix Eclipse at Maisons-Laffitte, France, on Wednesday, September 20.

The Charlie Appleby-trained two-year-old has captured three races, all over five furlongs, including Listed victories in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 20 and the Roses Stakes at York on August 26.

He disappointed on his only previous start over six furlongs, fading to 11th in the G2 July Stakes at Newmarket on July 13, but returns to France on the back of a staying-on second in the five-furlong G3 Prix d'Arenberg at Chantilly on September 3.

James Doyle partners the Exceed And Excel colt, who faces four rivals including Listed runner-up Coeur De Beaute, debut scorer River Cannes and Prix d’Arenburg fifth Arecibo.

Charlie Appleby said: “I was pleased with Sound And Silence’s run on soft ground at Chantilly and he should get similar conditions at Maisons-Laffitte.

“Sound And Silence didn’t get any cover over this trip in the July Stakes – he is a hold-up horse and likes to be buried in behind runners – and we wanted to give him another chance over six furlongs.”
