Space Blues gained a second G1 victory in France with an exhilarating performance in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp on Sunday, 3 October.

Racing over his favoured seven-furlong distance, the 2020 G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner was restrained towards the rear of the 15 runners by William Buick.

Space Blues cruised into contention and powered past the field in a matter of strides entering the final half-furlong, readily quickening clear of Pearls Galore and Entscheiden before being eased on the line for a cosy two-length success.

His trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Space Blues worked last week under William and I felt it was the best that I had seen him work. I know that he is a five-year-old now but he is a typical Dubawi, who has just got better with age.

“He was the class horse in the race today. We were concerned how well he would pick up in the heavy ground but he showed his class and we are delighted.

“There have been discussions about his potential retirement but I did speak about whether we might think about the Breeders’ Cup Mile for him.”

William Buick added: “Space Blues is a machine and one of my favourite horses. He is very honest, very genuine and a really classy horse, who is so fun to ride. He has a great turn of foot and goes very well on this ground.”
