Sweet Solera second for Grecian Light

Grecian Light stayed on well to take second in the seven-furlong G3 German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Saturday, August 6.
The Charlie Appleby-trained juvenile, successful on her debut over the same course and distance on July 15, was slightly impeded by On Her Toes leaving the stalls but soon recovered to dispute fifth of the nine runners.
Grecian Light moved to fourth at the half-way point and quickened smartly under James Doyle to go second entering the final furlong.
She continued to make headway but could not challenge Nations Alexander, who made all to win by a length and a half in 1m 26.03s on good to firm ground, with a neck back to On Her Toes in third.
Charlie Appleby commented: "I was delighted with Grecian Light's run. She went into the race with very little experience and was caught on the outside as they raced up the middle of the course.
"She raced a bit awkwardly for the first half of the race but galloped out well and we might look to step her up to a mile now. Quick ground seems to suit her and we will look for an option on firm ground."
