Gallant second for Sound And Silence

Sound And Silence ran on gamely to take second in the five-furlong G3 Prix d’Arenberg at Chantilly, France, on Sunday, September 3.
The two-year-old son of Exceed And Excel, already a dual Listed winner, was never happy on the soft ground.
Ridden by James Doyle, he was held up, raced a bit keenly early on and chased the leaders in the group racing off the stands’ rail.
He was asked to progress over two furlongs out, but hung before finding a clear run late, closing strongly to get within a half-length of the winner Rimini, whose time came to 58.26s.
Trainer Charlie Appleby said: “The ground went against Sound And Silence today – it was too slow for him.
“It still made sense to run him as we could have similar conditions at Doncaster in nearly two weeks’ time (G2, 5f, Flying Childers Stakes, September 15).
“He ran solidly, with the race not run to suit him – they went steady and then sprinted.
“Sound And Silence is a likeable horse and always competitive. He is a typical sprinter and we will keep Doncaster in mind as we can freshen him up in time.”
