Spectroscope third at Maisons-Laffitte

Spectroscope stayed on well to finish third in the G3 Prix du Prince d’Orange over a mile and a quarter at Maisons-Laffitte, France, on Saturday, September 17.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Andre Fabre and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, raced in fifth of the six runners early on before being relegated to last five furlongs from home.

He was switched out to deliver his challenge entering the final quarter-mile and made good headway to take third in the closing stages without troubling the front two.

Sky Kingdom took the spoils, beating Mekhtaal by a short-neck in 2m 10.84s on soft ground, with a further three lengths back to Spectroscope.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: “Spectroscope ran a good race on ground that was softer than ideal for him.

“He finished his race well and could have one more outing this season.”
